While often thought of as a muscle in our upper arm, the biceps tendon actually passes through the shoulder joint and often plays a big role in shoulder pain and disability. Inflammation, tearing, and instability of the biceps tendon often causes pain at the front of the shoulder. In younger patients, the biceps tendon can cause pain when playing sports and performing overhead movements and is often associated with labral tears.
Standard treatments for biceps tendonitis include physical therapy and anti-inflammatory medications.
Advanced treatments for biceps tendonitis offered by Dr. Nelson include ultrasound-guided injections as well as arthroscopic evaluation and treatment of biceps tendon problems.
